345' (105m), 3,824-ton passenger-cargo ship received bomb damage in Cebu, Philippines in April 1942, but was repaired and in action again between Japan and Singapore. Finally, she was the target of planes from the Carrier Essex on February 17 and 18, 1944. On February 17th she was struck by at least two 500-lb bombs, and the next day was struck by two 500-lb bombs, one amidships and one on the stern. When the planes departed, fires aboard were raging aboard the doomed ship.
